What We're Looking For
Three non-negotiables. Everything else, we can teach or build together.
Mission-Aligned
You believe personal embodiment and collective justice are connected. You show up for the community in the room, not just the sequence on the page.
Accredited & Certified
You've completed an accredited training program — yoga, personal training, Pilates, or strength coaching. Yoga Alliance registration isn't required. Bring your certification with your application.
Insured
Current liability insurance is required for every instructor who teaches at FlowWell, no exceptions.
New to teaching?
If you're under a year into your teaching journey, we'll most likely start you on the sub list, the Yoga Beyond Street Team, or BFWC's Sunday Soul Flow. These are lower-stakes reps built to grow your confidence and craft before you step into a full studio rotation.
Pay Structure
A guaranteed base that grows with your room. Our studio holds 13 mats, and the more paid students you bring in, the more you earn.
- Every class you teach pays at least the base, even on a quiet night.
- Paid students are members, Intro Offer students, and drop-ins. Guest passes and comps fill the room but don't count toward your band.
- Same rate for every format — yoga, Pilates, sculpt, restorative, or sound.
- Counts come from the Mindbody roster at the end of class, and every teacher can track their own classes and pay.
Studio Assistants are trade-based: free membership + 50% workshop discount in exchange for one front-desk shift a week.
How to Join the Sub List
The sub list is the front door to teaching at FlowWell. Here's how it works.
Apply
Submit the FlowWell Teacher Application below with your certification and insurance info.
Meet & Practice
A short conversation with our team, plus a practice teach so we can see your style in the room.
Sign On
Sign the Independent Contractor Agreement and Code of Conduct via DocuSign.
Get Scheduled
You're added to the sub roster and notified whenever a class needs covering.
From Sub to Teacher
Subbing is the proving ground. Here's what moves you onto the full teacher roster.
Log 10 Hours
Sub a minimum of 10 hours — 10 classes — at The Sanctuary or through Beyond the Studio.
Earn a Staff Recommendation
The teachers and leads you've subbed for complete a short feedback form recommending you for the roster.
Move Up
Once both are complete, our Operations Director moves you onto the regular teacher schedule.
Yoga Beyond Street Team
Wellness doesn't stop at our front door — and neither do our teachers.
The Street Team is the crew of FlowWell teachers who bring the practice into parks, rec centers, and community events across all 8 wards of D.C. — including our partnership with the DC DPR Fit Ambassador Program.
This is real reps in front of real crowds: outdoor Saturday flows with a DJ, indoor bi-monthly classes, and signature citywide wellness events, reaching people who might never walk into a studio.
Good fit if you're:
- Newer to teaching and want to build confidence and reps
- Energized by outdoor, community-scale classes over studio polish
- Comfortable teaching all levels, including first-timers
- Excited to bring yoga to neighborhoods it doesn't usually reach
